In Confession We Experience the Joy of God’s Forgiveness

Pastors, and especially confessors, must, said the Holy Father, "emphasize the close link between the Sacrament of Penance and an existence decisively oriented to conversion.”

Wonderfully expressed. Truly Catholic. Benedict XVI is impressive. Because he's a man he's not perfect—but, make no mistake, there's none better.

The Holy Father shared some great wisdom as well today on the historical sciences:
Historical Sciences are of Great Interest for Church Life
This in turn leads to "a society which, heedless of its own past and hence lacking criteria acquired through experience, is no longer capable of harmonious coexistence or joint commitment in realizing future aims. Such a society is particularly vulnerable to ideological manipulation.
